We are rebranding!
As the Autumn Equinox approaches and the seasons change once again, it is time for The Village Witch to also change and evolve into a brand new chapter. It is time to rebrand! The Village Witch has been serving the witchy community for nearly 30 years, and with the wheel of the year coming to the end, it is time to give The Village Witch the extra magic it deserves. I would like to take this time to thank you all for your support over the years whether it be through friendships, orders, subbing to our subscription boxes or readings.

How do you practice when you feel overwhelmed?
Whether you are just beginning your new spiritual path or you are in your 30th year, practicing magic, honouring the seasons, pulling out a daily tarot card all whilst juggling that thing called life can get a little much at times. So… how do you begin a witchy lifestyle or return to one if you are feeling like everything is getting a too much? Here are my 5 tips to practice when you are overwhelmed! 1) Go back to the beginning Sometimes, when we feel overwhelmed, we begin to feel lost. If you take house work, for example, when we

Conquering 10 Misconceptions about Witchcraft
Happy Monday everyone! I hope you are all doing amazingly! Today, is going to be a fairly light-hearted post where I, as a practicing witch, work through some misconceptions of Witchcraft that I have encountered in my life! Whilst I have only listed 10 misconceptions here, there are so many more, but I also didn’t want to waffle on for too long 😉 So, grab a brew and let’s get started! 1) Magic doesn’t exist Before we get started on the misconceptions about Witches, we need to address the big elephant in the room! In the past, when I have

I am magically starting again and you can too!
Has the mundane life got you down? Perhaps you have fallen off the wagon and in a rut and need a step back up? Or maybe you are a full on experienced witch just in need of a re-jig in the magical department… I am currently in all three of these categories. As the owner of The Village Witch, it pains me to say that I haven’t been practising my own spells or divination anywhere as near as much as I should or would like to be. But life… Yes… Life got in the way… majorly. If you have been

Introduction to The Village Witch and Amy
Happy Saturday everyone! Are we all having a great week so far? I just wanted to pop on over here and do a little introduction of both myself and The Village Witch for all those who are new to the shop, as well as a little section at the end of a few things to expect until 2022. So buckle up and grab yourself a cuppa, because this is going to be a long post! So firstly, welcome to you all to The Village Witch! The Village Witch, first established in 1995, is a UK based one shop wonder for

Creating & Working With Poppets / Witchcraft Dolls
The word poppet is an older spelling of puppet, from the Middle English ‘popet’, meaning a small child or doll. In British English it was also used as a term of love or endearment to a younger person, it continues to hold this meaning to this day in some English counties. In the realms of magic, especially traditional witchcraft, a poppet, also known as Poppits, Moppets, Mommets and Pippies, is a doll made to represent a person (a target), for casting spells on that person or to aid that person through their own magic. They are often found in old

Ancestral Magic & Working With Your Ancestors
Working with your ancestors on a magical or guidance level is a very powerful form of magic and is one that almost every religion, path or culture in the world takes part in some way. Your ancestors give you comfort, guidance, strength and an extra sense of power as it is like working with your own circle of people that are tied to you by blood. Some people find it hard to get their heads around the concept of working with their ancestors; after all, they are dead right? Yes, but they are not gone forever. The very first hurdle

Why do I charge for magical work?
The sordid topic of coin. One that is constantly brought up by various people with the notion that whatever I do, should be done free of charge as a service to the Universe. For those who remember my physical shop, will remember the below text being on a poster on the wall above the counter 😉 Village witches (village wise women) have always charged for services, traditional witches were not seen in the days of yore as outsiders, they were one of the most valued members of the community and trades of money and/or goods were always exchanged. It is

How To Use Herbs For Healing
BEFORE USING ANY HERBS FOR HEALING – PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR! Poultice A poultice is made by mashing herbs, plant material or another substance with warm water or natural oils to make a paste. The paste can be applied directly to the skin and covered with a piece of clean cloth. If the herb used is potent such as onion, garlic, ginger, mustard, etc., you may want a layer of thin cloth between the skin and the herb. The cloth can then be covered with plastic wrap to hold in the moisture. The poultice can be changed every 3

The Magic of Yule
The crisp winter air, the feeling of snow on your cheeks. The smell of pine trees, cinnamon, oranges, cloves and cookies baking in the oven. The long dark nights and the clear skies full of stars that shine brightly like diamonds glinting down on us. I am talking about my favourite time of year and one of the 8 festivals that most witches celebrate, Yule. Yule is the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year and the shortest day. The solstice falls between the 20th and 23rd of December each year but traditionalists often celebrate Yule on the 21st

Natural Cold Flu & Sore Throat Winter Remedy & Tonic
Before I start this recipe and before you glance down and think you are about to have a meltdown with all the weird sounding ingredients and all the faffing about…stop. This remedy is excellent. Yes it requires a lot of unusual stuff and yes it is a faff to make but it is better than a lot of over the counter stuff you’ll get and it’s natural! Ingredients 370g fresh rosehips 8g dried echinacea leaf 10g dried calendula petals 10g dried comfrey 20g dried coltsfoot 20 whole cloves 3 teaspoons of ground cinnamon 400g granulated sugar 5 teaspoons of freshly chopped ginger

Magic has no colour
There are a couple of terms in witchcraft that you will hear probably more than the all others put together. The first one is “white witch” and the second is “black magic”. The idea for both is purely symbolic, anything seen as white is good or positive while anything black is seen as bad or negative. Think of the colour of Stetson hats in old Spaghetti Western movies. The white hats were always the good guys; the black hats were always the baddies. When people ask if I am a white witch, I say “no, just a witch” and most
